CRANE TRUCK

CRANE TRUCK: There are many commonly used terms to describe the type of lorries we run, including crane truck, crane lorry, hiab lorry, hyab lorry, lorry mounted crane and truck crane, but all refer to the same type of vehicle. These are a variety of fllatbed trucks which are fitted with a crane so that the truck can both transport and offload goods. HIAB

HIAB is often used to describe or name a loader crane of any make. The name Hiab comes from the abbreviation of Hydraliska Industri AB. Hydraliska Industri AB is a company founded in Hudiksvall, Sweden 1944 by Eric Sundin. They saw a way to use a lorries engine to power loader cranes through the use of hydraulics.

FLY JIB

FLY JIB: This is a term used to describe a configuration whereby a smaller crane is fitted to the end of the main crane. This has 2 big advantages, it gives a much longer reach and allows the crane to reach both up and down and also across. This gives much greater flexibility when offloading - please see the pictures and technical details of our fly jib trucks on the section "Our Fleet".

MACHINE SKATING

MACHINE SKATING: This describes a procedure whereby a team of men will jack up machinery and carefully position machine skates underneath. The jacks are removed enabling the machinery to be moved into position on the skates, then the machines are jacked up again, the skates removed and the machinery gently lowered into place. Machine skates are specialist engineered products made of a series of non stick, polyurethane rollers designed solely for the purpose of moving machinery. REAR STEER

A REAR STEER TRAILER is one where the rear axles all steer by means of a remote or wire attached control panel. This allows our hiab lorry cranes to have much greater flexibility when accessing tight spaces. A trained, second man travels with the driver to assist in steering the rear steer trailer into and out of tight spaces. .
